CD Launch 18th October 2002
"It's
the voice..joyous, effortless, restrained, subtle.
It's a voice that can make you smile. It can make you cry.
And it can overwhelm you with it's power."
-Jeff Jenkins- (In Press/RRR)
You may know Sally as one-third of 'The Tiddas' or you
may just know her as 'the one with THAT voice!' Now Sally
is venturing out on her own, with a new band, new material,
and a whole new zest for music and performing.
Fresh from recording her forthcoming album,'Secrets To
Keep' at Woodstock Studios, Sally is excited about touring
in the later part of 2002 and into 2003. The band 'The Sweet
Sceptics' feature some of Australia's finest musicians with
Stuart Speed on Bass, Ed Bates on Pedal Steel, Matt Earle
on Drums and Mark Wallace on Accordion.
Sally's new work has her signature... her voice, her humour
and her compassion. She also explores new genres, and musically
this debut solo album is superb. From the sultry / jazz
of 'Keep Yourself Nice' and 'Sleep On The Floor' to the
emotive 'Lean With The Wind' and the uplifting 'Ugly Bird'...
Secrets To Keep is a great album.
Co-Produced by Sally and Ed Bates, with significant input
from all at Woodstock Studios including Joe Camillieri,
this album signifies a new and exciting beginning for Sally.
With guest spots from Joe Camilleri on Saxophone and Rob
Burke on Clarinet, this album, and Sally's forthcoming live
performances will see a new maturity for her as a musician
and a performer.
As a part of 'The Tiddas', Sally released two acclaimed
albums, four single LP's with accompanying videos, received
an ARIA Award and many other nominations. 'The Tiddas' played
to packed houses across Australia, the US and the South
Pacific. They spanned over 10 years supporting such artists
as; Billy Bragg, Arlo Guthrie and Robyn Hitchcock. Sally
has performed with Powderfinger, Bob Geldof, Midnight Oil,
The Chieftains and more, as well as recording with Powderfinger,
Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter, Christine Anu, Weddings Parties
Anything, Kahmahl and others.
Sally has worked on film soundtracks including 'The Silver
Brumby', 'Oceania Girl (animated), and Simone De Beauvoirs
Babies' - an ABC mini series with music by Jen Anderson.
In 1997, Sally took to the stage as an actor in the premiere
production of 'Over In The West', a country rock opera written
by Michael Thomas (Weddings Parties Anything) In 1999 Sally
worked on the new presentation of 'Over In The West' and
performed the part of Marie to much acclaim throughout Victoria.
Solo Sally has supported Mick Thomas, Jimmy Little, Renee
Geyer, Deborah Conway, Vika and Linda Bull, and Chris Wilson.
Sally will be performing songs from her new album 'Secrets
To Keep' in a nationwide tour commencing late 2002.
