A regular foot tappin Sunday session at the Cornish Arms
Adam Gare, Sam Lemann Jody Bell and Stuart Speed are the foursome who are Hula Wonder. With over 20 years playing together in various lineups at various times, the four are no strangers. Adam, Sam and Jody all hail from Fremantle, Western Australia. They headed east to Melbourne in the late 80s with The Jam Tarts and Nansing.
Adam Gare, being one of Melbournes best mandolin players, spent two years playing with Uncle Bill (along with Stuart Speed). Along with Hula Wonder, he plays electric mandoline and exercises his golden tonsils with local doowopians, "Dr doo-wop".
Sam and Adam have played together in various country flavoured bands and it shows and it shows in their twin pickin. Sam is one of the busiest guitarists in Melbourne and plays a very fine tune to just about any type of music.
Jody Bell has been singing and playing with various bands such as BOOF and the schmoozy cabaret, the J&T Hour, and she always has a country band on hand. Jody and Adam share vocals in Hula Wonder their harmonies so perfect it makes your hair stand on end.
Stuart Speed would have to be everybodys favourite bass player and hes also been known to sing a mean harmony.
Hula Wonder play a blend of favourite covers and originals, ranging from Doc Watson to Gram Parsons, to bands such as Cake. Having an all acoustic lineup lends itself to some pretty sweet sounds, which resonates all the way through their CD, Together, recorded at Adelphia Studios.
