Warmer
It's all about songwriting. My songwriting. I'm not 16 and I don't look like a fashion model. So shoot me. What I'm presenting here is 11 songs that mean something to me and seem to have the ability to reach other people.
The journey towards this album was a rediscovery of the acoustic guitar and singing as a mode of expression; listening to such folk as Robyn Hitchcock, Elliott Smith, Lucinda Williams, Ice Cream Hands, Tim Rogers and PJ Harvey and rejoicing in the work of those for whom songwriting is about giving something of yourself.
After years of working on other people's records - scoring strings and brass and playing and singing for Sneeze, the Whitlams, the Orange Humble Band, Bernie Hayes, Godstar and others - and exploring more experimental areas with St Crustacean and my collaboration with Nic Dalton, Love & Death - it was time to get back to songwriting.
I'm fortunate enough to say that since resuming work on my own material nearly two years ago, there's been a flood of songs that shows no sign of stopping. I'll be recording a new album starting in July.
My name is John Encarnacao.
My band is called Warmer.
The record is called A Prayer For Soft Honey. It will be out through the W.Minc label real soon.
