Texicali
Rose - Sundays in December
| Texicali Rose perform the hot Norteno, Conjunto & Mariachi music from the borderlands of Texas and Mexico ... TEX MEX ... a heady brew of ranchera, corrido, waltz, bolero & son jalisco. Driven by accordion, mariachi horns, acoustic guitar, upright bass and passionate harmony vocals in Spanish and English, this is the music of dusty ranches and lonesome Mexican ranchhands ... songs of lyin', drinkin', cheatin' & tragic lost love. Texicali Rose bring to life the humor, drama & joy of this unique music. |

"... watching Texicali Rose is an emotional journey that hauls you in, makes you want to cry, laugh, dance and shout."
Celia Kennedy, Metro News
"ranchera singers display an emotionalism that most Anglo-Saxons would avoid even when singing in the bath."
John Storm Roberts, The Latin Tinge
Texicali Rose was formed in 1995 by some of Melbourne's finest roots music musicians, all with backgrounds in a variety of American & latin genres; salsa, zydeco, cajun, blues, country & western, bluegrass and Texas swing. The band has since established a dedicated following, with audiences all over Australia responding to the exuberant Tex-Mex beat and the passionate performance style that is a trademark of the band.

Texicali Rose has had considerable success over the past five years at a variety of festivals, events and venues. They have appeared at every major Australian arts festival (Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne & Perth) and performed at music festivals, pubs & clubs, arts council events, community festivals and live-to-air radio broadcasts.
The band has released two CDs, both gaining strong airplay, in particular Radio National, along with capital city & regional ABC stations.

Ofrenda has just been voted World Music Album of the Year at the 2001 Australian World Music Awards and both CDs were awarded Best Australian World Music CD in the 1997 & 2000 reader's poll of music magazine, Rhythms
