Dave Steel
Friday 13th September, 2002

Dave Steel is a singer/songwriter, multi instrumentalist and producer of twenty years experience.
Some people may be familiar with his five previous solo albums, some with his work as an accompanist with the likes of Archie Roach, Ruby Hunter, Rose Bygrave, Marcia Howard, Cindy Boste, and Tiffany Eckhardt , amongst many others. He is also familiar as the original guitarist with Weddings Parties Anything.

Dave is an experienced touring musician, having worked all over the world as a solo act , as an accompanist, and as a band member at all levels from tiny clubs to huge concert stages. He also has extensive studio experience, having produced many recodings (including Peter Baxter's two albums) and been a session player on many more, including Archie Roach's ŒLooking For Butterboy' .Kavisha Mazzella's ŒFisherman's Daughter', Tiffany Eckhardt's ' Nino's Cafe', Rose Bygrave's ŒWhite Bird', and Marcia Howard's ŒButterfly".

Dave's last album was titled ŒEdge Of The World' an album of exquisitely crafted songs, ranging from the sweeping panoramas of Arukun Moon and the south coast stories of Modewarre and Crying Rocks,to the romantic sweetness of King Tide and the rockin' blues of New Mapoon.. ...guest performers included Rose Bygrave and Marcia Howard of Goanna, Jeff Lang, Tiffany Eckhardt and Kavisha Mazzella, as well as Dave's standard rhythm section of upright bassist Sandy Brady and drummer John Parry, and didjeridu exponent Glenn Romanis ..... Contemporary Australian roots music at it's best....

Dave spent much of 2000 working solo, and with brilliant young singer songwriter Tiffany Eckhardt and upright bassist Sandy Brady as a trio which performs either Tiffany's material, with Dave playing guitar, mandolin and harmonica; or Dave's material with Tiffany playing guitar and accordeon...this trio is vibrant, tough and exciting and made a mark on the Australian Festival scene with packed out shows and record sales at Apollo Bay Music Festival,The Queenscliff Music Festival, The Dandenong Ranges Music Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, and many more.

.."Dave Steel is the kind of artist who'll be keeping Australian music honest long after the latest pop sensation is forgotten.." Mike Daly ..The Age
"...one of the truly great Australian songwriters...his songs capture the harsh beauty of our land with a gentle poetry and understated feel..." Jeff Jenkins InPress Magazine

Early in 2001 Dave completed production work on the debut CD for Melbourne Urban Folk artist Rory Ellis. The CD titled Ride has garnered critical praise and Rory has been touring hard to rapt receptions, There have also been some live shows with Dave and bassist Stewie Speed accompanying Rory. Dave also played in sessions for new CD's by Kasey Chambers ("Barricades and Brick Walls"...) Tiffany Eckhardt (Leap of Faith) Rose Bygrave (Walking Home) Cyndi Boste (Push Comes to Shove), Merrilyn Simmons, and Sydney-based Dirty Lucy. The Welcome Wagon is a side project of Dave's..Their debut CD recorded over 2 nights in a small local studio reflects the band's love of vintage blues music, and unpretentious production values.

Dave is still working consistently as an instrumentalist for Archie Roach, Tiffany Eckhardt, Cindy Boste, Rory Ellis, and Brent Parlane, amongst others. 2002 sees the completion and release of Dave's seventh solo CD ŒHome is a Hard Thing to Find'
